WET SPOT @ PARKSIDE

Stepneck met on Lex (an app for queer lovers & friends) in fall 2021! Their genre is affectionately know by us as queer, dance, pirate, rock—— and THAT is the best descriptor for it. They are passionate about queer, black, poc, and all marginalized genders feeling seen & heard wherever we are.

Canvas Collective is an alt pop-rock band based out of Brooklyn, New York. The band consists of Mandy Kessler on vocals/synth, Kris Wong on guitar, and Violet Sepe on bass. They are proud to write and release songs that are personal to them, with lyrical topics such as mental health, interpersonal struggles, and their trans identity. They are currently playing shows in Brooklyn and working on an album that is heavily influenced by electronic music, combining that type of sound with guitar, bass and singing/screaming.

Funeral Doors Through cheeky lyrics and uncompromising ethos, New Jersey’s Funeral Doors has made waves across the tri-state area. Cultivating an energetic mix of queercore and midwest emo influence, the band draws on their queer and trans experience to craft a scrappy and vulnerable sound. With the release of their sophomore EP coming in 2024 the group is fervently gigging in preparation.

Ella Galvin LIVE with Special Guest Kate Cosentino

Ella Galvin is a New York based indie / soul / singer songwriter, originally hailing from Boston, MA. She takes inspiration from Amy Winehouse, Stevie Wonder, Remi Wolf, Lake Street Dive, & Lizzy McAlpine. She has her first EP out June 14, be on the look out!

Mostly recently described by Niall Horan as an "already-made star," Kate Cosentino creates genre-bending sounds coupled with authentic and whitty storytelling. Her performances are spotlighted by tastemakers like RollingStoneBillboard, and American Songwriter, with a sound of jazzy-pop sleekness atop the lyrical precision of slam poetry.

Le Vampyre Cabaret, New Orleans’ most talked about theatrical experience, LIVE IN NYC

Le Vampyre Cabaret, New Orleans’ most talked about theatrical experience,

is crawling out of its home crypt and flying to The Parkside Lounge in New York for a very special limited engagement!

Not for the faint (or fully straight) of heart, these undead thespians will glamor you with dark and delicious harmonies, seriously silly storytelling, & some bloodthirsty beauties that will slay you with good ole fashioned stripping!

Hosted by Centuries' Old Vampyres Madame Tsarina Magdalena Hellfire and Monsieur Stanley Roy. Featuring Brooklyn bred bombshell and patron saint of multiple orgasms Queerly Femmetastic!

Also, we will be inviting in the Internationally recognized & ghoulishly demented Vinsantos!  A gender careless boulevardier will arrest you with their post-punk/post-pueer cabaret noir performances. Hailing from the Barbary Coast and spread thinly across the Southern US, this inimitable artist presents a modern approach to the Weimar Era of the genre using original and popular song, demented "comedy" and stories. Recently inducted into the Bauhaus family of musicians and booked as the support act for Peter Murphy's Ruby Tour!

JESS TSANG: "sound shadows are everywhere. magnified by the acoustic resonators of concert bass drums in conjunction with electronic amplification, objects sing and shiver, awakened by a sonic environment both volatile and sympathetic."

VINES: "Vines is the solo project of composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Cassie Wieland. Praised by The New York Times as “sweetly shimmering,” Vines masterfully experiments with intimate ambient and experimental pop sound worlds to achieve the massive and hand-made vibe she is often searching for."

PHONG TRAN: "Phong Tran is a Brooklyn-based composer and visual artist primarily working in digital and electronic mediums. His work revolves around emotions and experience in nonphysical spaces. His most recent album, The Computer Room was released on November 19, 2021 through New Amsterdam Records. The album is a “thank you” to the virtual worlds, video games, message boards, and online communities of people he grew up with in the early 2000s."

Readings at Parkside: Laura Henriksen

Laura Henriksen’s first book, Laura’s Desires, was recently published by Nightboat Books; an excerpt is available  as a chaplet from Belladonna*. Her writing can be found in LitHub, Newest York, and other places. She lives in Sunset Park, Lenapehoking, teaches writing at Pratt Institute, and works as the Program Director of The Poetry Project.

Laura’s Desires is a diptych of two formally distinct long poems, each approaching various pop-cultural artifacts as a way to engage with longing, vulnerability, and the possibility of liberation.

Referencing pop culture artifacts, from hit ’90s singles like Selena’s “Dreaming of You” to heroines of cult classic TV and films (Laura Palmer and Variety’s Christine), this dynamic collection looks to these iconic touchstones as sites for feminist analysis and intervention. Traveling through dreamscapes, fantasy, and the quotidian, Laura’s Desires forges a path away from fear and shame, guiding us towards liberation.
